Coimbatore District Collector meets with press about election rules and regulations!

Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector and Returning Officer Rajamani met with the media people and at a press conference about the rules imposed by the Election Commission ahead of the forthcoming state assembly elections and the new facilities provided to the voters.



He then spoke about the postal voting facility that is introduced in the upcoming assembly election. District Collector Rajamani then said that postal voting can be used by people who are over the age of 80 who volunteer to vote via postal than in person. He also said that there are around 66,400 people over the age of 80 in the Coimbatore district.

Speaking further at the press meet, Returning Officer Rajamani stated that every booth has been added with facilities to help physically challenged people use their wheelchairs etc and assured that more facilities would be provided if a concern is raised.

Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani said the total number of polling booths set up in Coimbatore district was 4467 and the number of polling booths was higher than in the last election and said that 106 new polling booths had been set up since the last election and also said that flying squad had been added for security.

District Returning officer Rajamani then said that “ Due to Covid-19 we have limited people voting at every booth by increasing the number of polling stations across constituencies.”

He then said that steps were being taken to prevent all forms of money laundering, gifting voters and vote-buying activities during election periods and said that people can directly or indirectly file complaints regarding election rule violators and assured that maximum security will be given for them. Following that, he said that “so far 85 complaints have been received and most of them have been acted upon and some complaints will be investigated thoroughly and the actions will be taken soon.”

He later said that “ We are closely monitoring the areas with tense polling stations and would hold a consultative meeting with officials from the Kerala district on the Tamil Nadu border hence elections for both Kerala and Tamil Nadu are being held on the same day.”
