Coimbatore: Man attempts suicide by pouring petrol and burning himself due to debt problem in Tamaraikkulam near Pollachi. Vijayakumar is from Tamaraikkulam, Coimbatore Road. He has been selling water cans and has allegedly bought Rs 20,000 on interest from his cousin Jayaprakash for household expenses. He has paid Rs 11,000 with interest until now and promised to pay the rest a month later.
On February 26, Jayaprakash apparently insisted that the remaining money to be paid immediately. Vijayakumar took petrol from his vehicle and tried to self immolate. He is currently receiving treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.
CCTV footage of him pouring petrol on his body and setting himself on fire is currently going viral on social media sites including WhatsApp. As Vijayakumar has not yet lodged a complaint, the Kinathukadavu police are investigating with CCTV camera footage.
