A couple who steal sarees from other shops reportedly said to have reselling them under false pretense.
Coimbatore: Cops caught red-handed a couple who were involved in a series of robberies. In their statement, Police officials said that, "Mohanraj from Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore was operating a wholesale textile shop. Day before yesterday a 5 member gang consisting of 3 women visited Mohanraj's shop pretending to purchase from the wholesale shop.
But soon, Mohanraj in his CCTV camera saw the women trying to steal silk sarees from the shop. On seeing this Mohanraj complained to the police station.
After the complaint, a special team was formed under Police Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar. Sub InspectorSelvaraj, Constable Kumar, Karthik, Boopathi were investigating the case.
During police investigation, officials checked CCTV footage and found that the group was previously caught for stealing clothes from a textile shop in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore and were out on bail.
It was also revealed that the gang did not surrender to the court and that they were involved in committing the same robbery again.
During further investigation Police Officials arrested Murugan from Theni who was behind these crimes. Cops arrested Murugan, Manikavasagam and Dhanalakshmi and brought them to the police station. Shocking details were revealed during the investigation.
It is said that Murgan and his friend Lakshman were involved in robbing at shops across Tamilnadu by recruiting 10 people who would visit popular textile shops, pretend to buy and steal silk sarees.
However, Murugan's friend Lakshmanan passed away after which Murugan had an extra marital relationship with Lakshman's wife Dhanalakshmi. Murugan recruited Dhanalakshmi to his robberies, who will then go to shops posing as couples to steal sarees ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 rupees.
The couple's modus operandi was to visit the shops as soon as they open and steal from the shops.
During further investigation, Cops found that the couple were reselling these stolen sarees operating from their home. When officials went to check their house, they found stolen sarees worth about ₹1 crore were found stacked in the house.
This criminal activity has created a stir in the locality.
