Coimbatore: Wild elephants are causing ruckus by straying into residential areas in Valparai in Coimbatore. More than a thousand workers are employed at the Karumalai estate next to Valparai in Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore: Wild elephants are causing ruckus by straying into residential areas in Valparai in Coimbatore. More than a thousand workers are employed at the Karumalai estate next to Valparai in Coimbatore district.
Seven elephants that suddenly entered the residential area at midnightbroke into the ration shop there and fed on the rice and other items and entered a temple and the residential area. The herd also demolished the door and window of houses of Sundaram, Gandhi, and Sekar. When the residents woke up hearing the noise, they realized that the elephants were damaging the area around the house and informed the forest department.
Forest department officers rushed to the spot and chased the wild elephants into the forest. This caused panic and fear in the area. The public in the area have urged to set up electric fences and said they suffer as they could not see where the elephant is coming from due to the lack of street lighting. So the people of the area have demanded that street lights be set up in the area immediately.
