Coimbatore: Night curfew withdrawn by Karnataka after announcement. On TuesdayChief Minister Yediyurappa said "there is no need" and on Wednesdayhe said it would be imposed and now it has again been withdrawn.

The night curfew was imposed due to concerns over a mutated and rapidly-spreading coronavirus strain. But just a few hours before it was going to be implemented with the state police already issuing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the curfew period, the night curfew announcement was withdrawn and the reason was cited as it was in the view of public opinion.

According reports by PTI Yediyurappa said, "In view of the public opinion that there was no need for night curfew, the decision was reviewed and after consulting with cabinet colleagues and senior officials it has been decided to withdraw the night curfew,"

The Chief Minister urged people to follow preventive measures by wearing facemasks, hand hygiene and social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The night curfew announcement restricted non-essential movement between 11 pm and 5 amtill January 2and it was not well received by shopkeepers, traders and businessmen in the state.

With the Christmas and New Year holiday hotels, restaurants, bars and pubs in Bengaluru were looking for big business especially as they had suffered losses during the complete lockdown.
