Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic private schools and colleges have been shut which has stopped the function of school and college busses.
Coimbatore: Buses and vans of schools and Colleges which were not in use because of the Covid-19 pandemic were issued fine along with road tax. This has come as a shock to the private school and college managements.

Although many departments and other public sectors have resumed operation post Covid-19 lockdown, schools are still closed. This has stopped the usage of busses and vans which belongs to private schools and colleges for over 9 months. But the corporation has asked the private schools and colleges to pay road tax along with a fine.
When asked about this issue to the government officials: Time was given from June 30th to September 30th to pay the tax for the year and an extra time till last month 30th to pay the road tax without fine.
It is only after this a fine of 20% was charged to the schools and colleges who paid their tax before the 15th of December.
A fine of 50% will be charged to taxpayers who are yet to pay. The government officials also said that the road tax were issued only for organization which did not have the stop page certificate.
When asked to the private schools and colleges organizers on this issue "It is a well known fact that schools and colleges have remained been shut till now because of Covid-19 pandemic. This has made it very clear that school and college buses will not be running. The management officials also asked about the need for requesting a seperate stop page certificate."
They also said that no updates was given from the government regarding the tax and this sudden imposition of asking us to pay for road tax along with fine is unacceptable.No officials were present during the lockdown, this the reason behind us missing the dates of payment.
