Officer consoled employee injured in elephant attack
Coimbatore: An employee who was caring for the elephant at the elephant camp was injured when the elephant pushed him down.
He is being treated at a private hospital and the Ranger officer met him in person and consoled him. Last week on 18.12.2020Manikandan the caretaker went to graze an elephant named Mariappan at the Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp in Ulandi Wildlife Sanctuary.
Manikandan suffered an internal injury in the left forearm area when the elephant pushed him down. He was immediately treated at the Alva Hospital in Ambarampalayam and returned to work the same day. On the same day, he returned to the Kozhikamuthi elephant camp and took care of the elephant Mariappan and fed it in the evening.
He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pollachi as his arm still hurts. As Manikandan is a permanent worker Oriental Accident Insurance has been issued to the employees in the Pollachi division with accident insurance cover up to Rs 1 lakh. The Ulandi Forest Officer also met Manikandan at the hospital and consoled him.
