Campus Front members besieged railway station demanding release of their General Secretary Raouf Sharif

Coimbatore: Campus Front members besieged railway station yesterday demanding release of their General Secretary Raouf Sharif.

The arrest of Raouf Sharif, the National General Secretary of the Campus Front, at the Trivandrum airport by the Enforcement Agency (ED) has been strongly condemned. The siege of the Coimbatore railway station was held in the presence of Coimbatore District Chairman K. Mohammad Azharuddin in the presence of District Secretary Abu Dahir, demanding his immediate release.

They alleged that the central government is using the enforcement department to hunt down ideologues, political opponents, and individuals fighting against anti-people laws and added that everyone who wants democracy has a responsibility to prevent government institutions from becoming soldiers of 'Sangh Parivar'.

Authorities have said in a written statement that they could not find anything in the search conducted by the ED at his home after Raouf Sharif was arrested.

The protestors alleged that the arrest even after this is illegal and means that the Campus Front leaders are being hunted for their active involvement in the fight against the CAA-NRC. They accused that this is the BJP's move to intimidate leaders and movements opposed to the Sangh Parivar before the implementation of the CAA-NRC early next year.

The protestors urged that the central government must stop targeting individuals and organizations that have led the struggle against the CAA-NRC and said that it is the weak intention of the RSS that students will withdraw from their struggle against the politics of hatred. Therefore, Raouf Sharif, the National General Secretary of the Campus Front, should be released immediately. The protesters also demanded that all people come forward to fight together with the Campus Front against the fascist organisations.
