If Govt doesn’t compensate the farmers even after this, farmers will bring cattles to campus after Pongal warns MP Natarajan

Lok Sabha MP Natrajan warns the government that the campus will be used for cattle rearing if the farmers are not paid before Pongal.

Coimbatore: 50 farmers under the leadership of MP PR Natrajan participated in a protest infront of the Bharathiyar University Campus. The protest was done by the farmers requesting the government to sanction the promised compensation made to the them.

During Late Chief Minister MGR's rule, thefarmers were asked to give up their land for the construction of educational universities. As per the agreement made the AIADMK government then, farmers who gave up their lands were promised with q good compensation along with an assured government job for one in their family.

The protestors requested the government to settle the agreed amount and to provide employment which is log overdue.

"Farmers who gave around 1000 acre of their land towards the building of Bharathiyar University Campus haven't still been paid nor given government jobs" said MP PR Natrajan.

Post participating in the protest MP PR Natrajan met the media he said " During MGR's time farmers from across the state were requested to give up their lands to build universities to develop education. That is when the farmers near Bharathiyar University have up their land to the government. Later the government tried lowering the assured compensation to which the farmers petitioned at the high court. The court's verdict in 2007 ordered the government to increase pay that is to be given to the farmers. The State government filed a case against this at the high court".

MP PR Natrajan also said that the government should immediately take back the case filed at the high court and to settle the amount as promised without delaying it. He also said that government jobs at Bharathiyar University shuld be given to one of the family members.

During the protest MP PR Natrajan also requested the government to do this before the Pongal festival and incase of not completing this, the farmers have no choice but to start rearing their cattles inside their campus.
