Number of Tax Assessees rise from 7.5 lakhs to 10 lakhs in jurisdiction of Coimbatore - Chief IT Commissioner


Coimbatore: Coimbatore: The total number of tax assessees under Coimbatore has increased to 10 lakhs from 7.5 lakh assessees earlier.

There are totally 8 districts which comes unde the jurisdiction of The Chief Commissioner of Income tax office at Coimbatore. Previously there were 7.5 lakhs tax assessees. During previous year more than ₹5,000 crores tax amount has been collected.

Income Tax office sources said, "There are two types of tax payers namely those who are not required to get their accounts audited and the tax payers who are required to get their accounts audited. Usually every year the first category tax payers will be filing their returns during July and The second category tax payers would be filing their returns during September. This year due to 'Covid-19' outbreak, tax payers belonging to both the categories have been given time limit till December 31 (for those who dont require accounts audited) and January 31 (those who needs accounts audited).

Previously the total number of tax Assessees at Coimbatore Chief Commissioner office was 7.5 lakhs. Presently the number has been increased to 10 lakhs. During previous year Rs 5,600 crores tax amount was collected. This year till now more than Rs 2,000 crores tax amount has been collected.

At present more than 97% of the taxpayers are using only 'E-FILING' facility to file their returns. This is mainly because of the steps taken by the Income Tax department which has made filing returns through online very easy.

Considering the welfare of those who need assistance in filing their returns may use the services at a nominal charge to the 'Tax Return Preparer' services provide at the 'ASK' HELP DESKfunctioning inside the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax office at Coimbatore."
