What I said was against cash for votes, not Tamil Nadu government Pongal welfare schemes; I welcome it - K Annamalai tweets

Some people are misleading the Tamil Nadu government Pongal freebies, I welcome it - BJP Annamalai IPS tweet.

Coimbatore: BJP State Vice President, K Annamalai, tweeted that "some people are misleading the Tamil Nadu government Pongal welfare schemes as though I am against it. I actually welcome it."

Annamalai IPS, who recently joined the BJP posted on his Twitter page that he welcomes the Pongal money Rs. 2,500 that the Tamil Nadu government is providing people. He said few are trying to mislead it as cash distributed for votes in upcoming election.

He went on to add that he completely welcomes it as it is a relief for people who have suffered due to COVID-19 pandemic. He clarified that few news channels and media are trying to misinterpret what he said in Coimbatore and was publishing false news as he opposed the scheme by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palanisamy.

His tweet said, "We support the Chief Minister's increase in the amount to be paid to Pongal from one thousand to two thousand five hundred rupees. They have misrepresented what I said in Coimbatore that the BJP does not want and will never do such politics. In times of COVID-19 when the money provided by the government is used to help the people as opposed to providing Rs. 2000 for vote at the time of the election. Some media outlets are trying hard to confuse the people by combining the Rs. 2000 given for election and Rs. 2500 given as Pongal benefit. Truth must be understood and all lies must be destroyed. Hail Tamil Nadu"
