Coimbatore: Over 1000 electricity employees participated in a protest today against the state government's decision to privatise the TamilNadu Electricity Board.
Workers unions of the Electricity Board have been continuously urging the state government to fill the 30,000 empty positions across the state by hiring Gangman and ITI contract employees.
But the government and electricity board who did not agree to that have now agreed to hand over the maintenance projects of all the sub stations to private companies.
Employee unions are now protesting for the withdrawal of the order 82 I and have announced going on an indefinite waiting protest.
The Protest began at 8am today at full swing in front of the central electricity office building in Tatabad. Employees working at sub-stations and production offices are also protesting against the government.
Employees who participated in the protest against the government chanted slogans against Electricity Board Minister Thangamani, 82 I act and the dictatorship ruling of the electricity board.
Union leaders of electricity board employees Kanthavel, Madhusudhanan, Veerasamy, Abdul Nassar, Somasundaram and Ponnusamy participated in the protest.
Also the union leaders who spoke at the protest told that that protest is to continue until the government scraps the act of 82 I and that the employees are ready how much ever longer it takes.
