Voting machines brought from Maharashtra to Coimbatore amidst heavy security
Coimbatore: Voting machines for the assembly elections were brought from Maharashtra to Coimbatore amidst heavy security. Assembly elections are scheduled for 2021 in various states, including Tamil Nadu. The voting machines were brought to Coimbatore from the state of Maharashtra under heavy police security and unloaded at the Health Department office at Race Course Road. Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani inspected this in person today.
The machines, which were then sealed, were opened in the presence of political parties and placed in a safe room. The District Collector K. Rajamani said preparations are underway for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and said the required ballot boxes were being brought from other states.
There are a total of 3048 polling booths in Coimbatore district. For this, 4267 ballot machines and 4267 control engines and 4500 VVPAT will be ready. Coimbatore already has 753 ballot machines with 205 control units and 81 VVPAT and the additional machinery required is being brought from Kolhapur and Sahara in Maharashtra. Today3410 control units and 4330 VVPAT units are coming from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
BHEL employees from Bangalore are scheduled to test the machines from the 23rd in the presence of political parties and journalists. He said the work was being carried out on the instructions of the Election Commission of India and added that the newly constructed building for placing ballot boxes will be opened next January after the Election Commission gives its approval.
