Coimbatore: Members of Vellalar community and Manila Kongu Vellalar Gounder Sangam took part in a demonstration which opposed the government's rule towards letting other community members use "Vellalar" as a common community name.
Coimbatore: Members of Vellalar community and Manila Kongu Vellalar Gounder Sangam took part in a demonstration which opposed the government's rule towards letting other community members use "Vellalar" as a common community name.
The members of Manila Kongu Vellalar Gounder Sangam and Vellalar Community members have protested against the government for allowing the usage of Vellalar as a community name for other castes. The members who participated in the demonstration said that caste members from Chettiar to Pillai are using "Vellalar" as their common community name.
Since the castes members parted based on politics there is no unity now. They also said that caste name is the basis of reservation and the current BJP government is biased for letting other caste members have a common community name.
Nanguthisai Vellalargal Sangam leader Kongu K Devaraj, Truste KR Sivadesigan Pillai, State Co-Ordinator Nattamai Manivannan, Soliya Vellalar Union Leader A Jagadeesan, and others participated.
District lawyer union secretary Salem P Rajendran, District lawyers union secretary Santosh Kumar, District Youth with Secretary Prashanth, Manila Kongu Vellalakgounder Peravai Head Advocate SP Rajendran and 40 other community leaders and secretaries participated in this event.
