Coimbatore: The Tribal people have demanded that action be taken against the officials who broke the lock of the ration shop in violation of the Collector's order.
More than ten thousand tribal people live in 23 settlements in the Anaikatti area of Coimbatore. Government operates two fair price shops in the Alamaramedu area and near the Anaikatti check post for ration items.
More than 6000 people are benefiting from these fair price shops. Both the shops have been run by the Datsana Women's Self Help Group and the Chinna Jambukandi Women's Group for over 23 years. In this case, it is alleged that the authorities have broken the lock of the shop and kept the ration items without any warning.

The people of the area had come to petition the District Collector to take action against them.
According to the self-help group, "a complaint has been lodged with the District Collector regarding the self help group taking over the fair price shop and the District Collector has stated that this can be done by the women's self-help group itself. But, by the time we went to get the Cheque, the authorities had trespassed by breaking the lock of the store. This act is reprehensible."

A complaint has been lodged on behalf of the Adivasi Sangam Federation with the Superintendent of Police and the Registrar of the High Court, urging them to take action against the officers who disobeyed the permission given by the Collector.
