Coimbatore: A rally was held in Coimbatore on behalf of the Congress party with a plough demanding the repeal of agricultural laws affecting the livelihood of farmers.
Farmers in the capital, Delhi, have been staging a series of protests against the federal government's agricultural law.
With the failure of negotiations with the Central Government, there have been protests on behalf of various organizations and political parties in favor of repealing the Agricultural Act.
In this situation, a plough rally is being carried out on behalf of the Congress party throughout Tamil Nadu in support of the farmers.
As part of this, Coimbatore district Congressmen marched with ploughs from the Congress party office opposite the railway station to the District court.
At the time, they raised slogans urging the central government to repeal the laws.
More than 300 people attended the rally, which was led by Mayura Jayakumar, the state working president of the Congress party.
Speaking to reporters before the rally, Mayura Jayakumar said 'the central government had made three laws against farmers, making a historic mistake and betraying the farmers.
He said the laws had deprived farmers of their rights and they had lost their livelihoods, adding that the laws should be withdrawn immediately.
He also said that the Congress party during the Green Revolution had sided with the farmers but now condemned the central government's practice of mortgaging agriculture in favor of corporates.
