Dr. S Kedharnath is considered to be the "Father of Forest Genetics in India."
Coimbatore: The Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB), Coimbatore conducted the 7th edition of Dr. S. Kedharnath Memorial Lecture today on 18th December, 2020 using online transmission.
Dr. S Kedharnath is considered to be the "Father of Forest Genetics in India." This memorial lecture is conducted every year to commemorate Dr. S. Kedharnath pioneer research in the field of Genetic Improvement of Forest Trees in India.
About 190 participants from various research institutions, universities and colleges attended this programme online.

At the memorial the main lecture was given by Dr. M. Sanjappa, former Director of the Botanical Survey of India, Kolkata, on the topic "Floristic Diversity in India: An Overview."
Dr C. Kunhikannan, Director of IFGTB gave the presidential address and Shri S.D. Sharma, Deputy Director General, ICFRE. Dehradun inaugurated the Lecture and addressed the participants.
Other eminent personalities including Dr Kannan C.S. Warrier, Dr. K.R. Sasidharan and Dr A. Rajasekaran were present during the event which happened online.
