Coimbatore: The residents of Puliyampatti panchayat near Pollachi are afraid that the pillars of the drinking water overhead tank will gave way soon. It will have to be disposed of as it is in a dilapidated condition say the residents.
Pollachi Circle Puliyampatti Panchayat has a population of over 2,000 people. For the drinking water needs of the people of the area, water is taken from the Ambarambalayam river in a joint drinking water project, treated and supplied to the public through an overhead tank in the panchayat.
An overhead tank with a capacity of 10,000 liters was constructed for this purpose. Through this tank, drinking water is distributed to the public.
Meanwhile, more than 20 years after the overhead tank was built, the bottom of the tank and the pillars are exposed with cement shifting wires. People in the area are scared because the wires are rusting and could collapse at any moment.
The people of the area said, "The pillars of the overhead tank built for the needs of the people of Puliyampatti panchayat are weakening and the cement coatings are giving way. The damaged drinking water overhead tank should be demolished and disposed of as soon as possible," they said.
