Woman dies after consuming a poisonous tuber Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A Woman died today after allegedly consuming a poisonous tuber. Senthilkumar (age 35), is a labourer, from 5th Street, Shankar Nagar, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. His wife Dhanalakshmi (28) and Senthilkumar went to work as usual on the day of the incident.
Then Dhanalakshmi finished her house chores and went to the Bhavani river to wash clothes. While washing clothes there, Dhanalakshmi plucked a tuber from a nearby plant and ate it. She then completed her chores and returned home.
Then she suddenly had abdominal pain which intensified as time passed. When she couldn't bear it anymore Dhanalakshmi immediately called her husband and told him what had happened. Senthilkumar returned home and admitted Dhanalakshmi to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for treatment. The doctors who examined her there said that his wife had eaten a poison tuber. Though intensive treatment was given she died tragically. Mettupalayam police have registered a case under sections 174 and 176 and are investigating.
