Coimbatore: The Ponnoothu hills is located in the Western ghats part of Coimbatore. It said that more than 50 elephants are located in the Ponnoothu hill area. Many reports of wild elephants entering the fields and areas of human inhabitants can be witnessed often.
In a similar incident like this which happened yesterday night around 10pm an old man who was riding his cycle was attacked by a wild elephant and he died on the spot near a hollow block company in Sri Nagar.
The forest officials who were notified regarding this incident then conducted an investigation. It was later revealed that the man who was killed was Somasundaram (63) a widower who is from Chinna thagadam, Coimbatore. Somasundaram is succeeded by two children.
