15 members of Naam Tamilar Party arrested for showing black flag to Vice President Venkiah Naidu
Coimbatore: Fifteen members of the Naam Tamizhar Party have been arrested in Coimbatore for trying to show a black flag to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in protest of the central government's Agriculture Amendment Act.
Farmers in Delhi have been engaged in a series of protests against the central government's agriculture amendment laws. Various organizations and political parties across the country have been supporting the farmers' protest. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Coimbatore this evening by plane to attend the Graduation Ceremony of the Agricultural University to be held tomorrow.
As he was about to travel by road from the airport to the Government Guest House, police received tip-off that the Naam Tamizhar Party was going to show a black flag to Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India in protest of the amendments to the Agricultural Law.
Following this heavy security was deployed in the Lakshmi Mills junction in Avinashi road.
Police removed the 15 protesters by truck who tried to show black flags.
Vehicles heading towards Avinashi were stopped and turned into a one-way lane for a while. Police also checked of there were anyone hiding in the area to protest. This caused a stir in the area.
