Gold workshop owners absconds with 25kg of gold bars: Police investigates
Coimbatore: Police investigate gold workshop owners who absconded with 25kg of gold bars. The owner of a gold jewelery workshop in Ashok Nagar, Selvapuram, Coimbatore, has been buying gold bars to order at various jewelry shops in the city and designs them into gold jewelry. He is believed to have bought more than 25 kg of gold bars from more than 15 jewelry shops in the city and absconded.
Suspecting of smuggling a complaint was lodged with the Selvapuram Crime Branch Police. Police are investigating various suspicions as to why gold bars of several crores were given in bulk to one person. Investigations have begun but police have not yet registered a case in this regard.
Last year in Coimbatore, a man was found with 10 kg of gold bars worth crores of rupees. The man who allegedly stole the gold bars was caught while he was being investigated by the police. The complaint was later withdrawn and it ended without a lawsuit. Several similar complaints have been received so far. The jewelry industry is operating on trust and gold bars are handled without proper proof documents. It seems that many people do not follow the documents due to income tax issues.
It has become customary for police to act on several complaints of deceit and have arrested and recovered the stolen gold bars. A few months ago based on a complaint by gold jewellery shop owners who approached the Coimbatore police to nab a North Indian man who had smuggled gold bars. Police detained the man on a plane on the same day of abduction. When questioned about the current case the police said they would enquire if the complaint is genuine then a case will be filed and action will be taken.
