Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu lorry owners assosiation have decided to go on an indefinite strike starting 27th of this month.
Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu lorry owners assosiation have decided to go on an indefinite strike starting 27th of this month.

When asked R. Kumarasamy, president of the state lorry owners association said the following:
With recent verdict from the Madurai High Court, lorry owners were advised to fit GPS and brake system from government approved companies.
The government has enforced the lorry owners to accessorize their lorries with brakes. Thegovernment has ordered to buy the systems from 12 approved companies.In Tamilnadu there are around 49 organizations in the production of the same product which are approved by the central government.
Also the government has also forced us to buy lumination stickers only from two companies who charge extra. While the usual lumination stickers are priced around 600, the stickers sold at the state government approval are charging around 5000 rupees.
Similarly GPS navigation systems are manufactured by almost 140 companies in the state and the government approved 8 companies are charging around 15,000 for the same product which are charged around 3,000 from other companies.

The lorry owners association are also protesting against uniformity in the load carrying capacity and the corruption in the transportation department. They assosiation members have also complained that at the Tamilnadu check points only bribery is happening.
They said fines are being issued even at lorries that are standing in petrol bunks.
To fight against this, they lorry assosiation members have decided to gon on an indefinite strike from morning 6 am of December 27th. The owners have also requested the Police Department to take necessary action regarding this.
With over 4.5 lakh lorries under strike the interstate lorry transportation is also suspended. Lorries assosiation president Kumarasamy also said that small vehicles have also showed interest to participate in the protest.
The protest and indefinite strike happening from the 27th of this month have gained support from Indian Motor Congress and South India Motor Congress.
