Valparai in Coimbatore district is currently experiencing an increase in the number of man-animal conflict. Animals like elephants are damaging houses and ration shops.
Rs 3,000 as compensation was provided to Radhakrishnan who was chased and injured by a wild elephant at the Valparai Injiparai Estate.
A leopard which killed a calf belonging to Kamaraj Nagar Ramer and Raj, a resident of Savarangadu estate, were given Rs 2,000 each as compensation.
Beneficiaries thanked the Government of Tamil Nadu, Member of Legislative Assembly Kasthuri Vasu and the Forest Department though the compensation was low compared to the damage caused by the animals.
The event was attended by a large number of people including Valparai legislator Kasthuri Vasu, Valparai Vattatsiyar Raja, Manampalli forest ranger Manikandan, Vanavar Muniandi, city secretary Mayil Ganesan and union leader Valparai V Amithu Vasu.
