4 tonnes of ration rice being smuggled from Pollachi to Kerala seized: Driver arrested
Coimbatore: Four tonnes of ration rice being smuggled from Pollachi to Kerala seized and the driver was arrested.
Police received a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled to Kerala through Sethumadai near Pollachi. Following this, the police were engaged in a vehicle search in the Pungan Bridge area near Sethumadai. Then they stopped and inspected a tempo that came that way and found that there was about 4 tonnes of ration rice in the truck.
Following this, the police arrested Jagannathan (34), a resident of Tathur area, who was driving the vehicle. The investigation revealed that he was to smuggle ration rice from the Anaimalai and nearby areas to take it to Kerala. Following this, the police confiscated 4 tonnes of ration rice and the vehicle used for the smuggling and arrested Jagannathan who was driving the vehicle and handed him over to the Pollachi Food cell Unit.
