There were increasing cases of series of robbing of gold from women traveling alone for months, including chain-snatching and house robbery, two-wheeler and car theft. On the orders of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Arularasu, a team led by Pollachi Deputy Superintendent of Police Sivakumar set up a team to search for the culprits.
Kottur Road - Vanjiapuram section, East police station police stopped and inspected a two-wheeler out of suspicion while conducting a vehicle inspection. Since they gave contradicting statements they were interrogated and later it was revealed that they were involved in robberies.
Following this, the police arrested 4 persons including Suriya Jagadeesh (27), Raghupathi (37), Malleeswaran (31) and Sabrinathan (24) from Kottur Malayandipattinam.
13 soverigns gold, 3 two-wheelers, one omni car, Rs. 5 lakh and 10 thousand cash were confiscated. The police later registered a case against the four, produced them in court and remanded them in custody.
