More than 400 foundries at Coimbatore to go on indefinte strike from December 16
Coimbatore: Stating the abnormal price increase of various raw materials as the reason, more than 400 foundries have decided and officially announced to involve in indefinite strike from December 16.
Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners Association(COSMAFAN) President, A.Siva Shanmuga Kumar during a press meet said, "Foundries are considered as the mother of all the other Industry sectors. Castings is one of the main raw materials for various products manufacturing and this is the reason why this industry sector is considered as more important.
There are more than 600 foundries functioning at Coimbatore district among which more than 400 foundries are the members of our association. In the recent days the price of raw materials used for manufacturing castings are witnessing abnormal increases which has pushed our entire industry sector to crisis."
"Price of raw materials such as pig iron has increased 26%, Scrap by 26%, Coke by 12%, Amin Gas silicon by 166%. Apart from this the Labour cost also has been increased by 29%. In spite of various requests made to the central government till now no action has been taken. Hence on behalf of our association we have decided to start Indefinite strike from December 16 onwards.
Our Association is also a part of 'FOCIA' Federation of Coimbatore Industrial Associations which has announced to conduct a protest on December 15. Unless the central government take action in bringing down the raw materials price, the situation in the industries will not turn to normal and if the present situation continues many lakh peoples will lose their jobs temporarily."
