Coimbatore: The farmers are fighting against the government's new agricultural reform act for over 19 days now in Delhi. While many political parties and general public have already shown solidarity with the farmers the government has still not taken back the act.
During this protest 11 farmers unfortunately have lost their lives. So the All India Farmers Union has petioned the government to issue Rs 1 crore for the welfare of family and also requested the government to provide the families of the farmers with a government job for 1 family member.
Insupport to this petition, the members of the Coimbatore District Assosiation For Tamilnadu Farmers Uniion, CPI, CPI(M), MDMK, Kongu Makkal Desiya Katchi and Makkal athigaram protested in front of the Coimbatore Collectorate.
Men, Women and members of various parties and the members of farming community in total participated in the protest by changing slongans against the central government. The 87 members who participated in the protest were arrested by the police department later.
Post this protest security near the Collectorate has been tightened.
