Tearing of the picture near Devar statue causes a stir in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Muthuramalinga Devar poster was torn near his statue in Coimbatore and caused a stir in Coimbatore. There is a statue of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Devar in the Olympus area of Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore. His portrait is placed near the statue. When people in the area went to have tea this morning they saw that the portrait near the statue was torn down.
The people were shocked to see this and all the people of Thevar community who lived there came together and immediately lodged a complaint at the Ramanathapuram police station. In the complaint they stated that the portrait of Muthuramalinga Thevar has been torn down with the intention of tarnishing his image.
They urged the police to immediately intervene and arrest and take action against the social antagonist involved in this heinous act. The people of the area said that if no action was taken the Thevar organizations would mobilize all the members of the Mukkulathor community to protest. Heavy police force is deployed in the area for security.
