Coimbatore Based Shanthi Social Service (SSS) needs no introduction among Coimbatore public. The Chairman of Shanthi Social Service Subramaniam was loved by many without anyone knowing his face.
Coimbatore: The widely revered Shanthi Social Services’ (SSS) Chairman Subramaniam passed away today morning. Coimbatore based Shanthi Gears’ Ex Director and Shanthi Social Service Organization Trustee Subramaniam (78) was less known by people but is known more about his social service by everyone.
SSS Trustee Subramaniam started his career as a professor of a private college and later in the year 1972 started his gear wheel manufacturing company with just one Lathe Machine.
He started out by manufacturing spare parts for textile industries and later expanded his firm by exporting for companies located abroad.Shanthi Gear products were even made for ISRO.
A few years back Shanthi Gears was sold to a private company and Founder Subramaniam who wanted to serve people, then started a social service organisation in the year 1996.
For the past 24 years Subramaniam who is the trustee of SSS have been serving the public by providing services in healthcare, education and even in the food industry.
The SSS organization which has it's premises near Singanallur has been providing free food to more than 300 elders over the age of 60.
At the SSS canteen lunch is served everyday at the minimal cost of ₹30. They serve breakfast and dinner at a very basic cost. The SSS canteen now also serves fresh juices, healthy snacks at the best quality and price which attracts people in and around Coimbatore district to visit.
At Shanthi Social Service health care hospital the doctors charge a basic fee of ₹30 and medicines are provided at a 30% discount along with various other scans and lab tests at a basic charge. Due to services at lower costs SSS premises can always be seen crowded.
The other big part of SSS was the petrol bunk run by Subramaniam who sold petrol at the basic stock price and since then a large line of people can be seen waiting to fill fuel. Right opposite to that there is a free electric body cremation service provided by Shanthi Social Service Trustees.
Shanthi Social Services also has two primary schools for children who provide a holistic approach to education. Many youngsters are given the opportunity to work at the SSS organization after their education.
Trustee Subramaniam who was determined not to show his face in public, has maintained that even at his demise.The 78 year old trustee Subramaniam was suffering from health issues and passed away today after continuous treatment.
