Test run of super speed train between Pollachi and Podanur broad gauge held today.
Coimbatore: The test run of a 110 km super speed passenger train between Pollachi and Podanur was held, today. The broad gauge railway line from Pollachi to Dindigul, Palakkad and Coimbatore has been completed and train operations have begun.
Since March, most of the train routes remain unused due to cancellation of hundreds of passenger and express trains across the country. And, between the Palakkad to Chennai via Pollachi broad gauge route only one passenger train is being operated.
Till now, the Southern Railway has allowed Pollachi-Coimbatore and Dindigul-Palakkad trains to operate at a speed of 80 kmph. Now, speed tests are being carried out to increase the speed of trains currently running through Pollachi. As a part of this, a test run of 110 km high speed train with only three compartments was conducted today between the Pollachi and Podanur track.
The trial run was conducted under the aegis of Assistant Engineer Kannadasan. The efficacy of the the test run will be documented and forwarded to the senior railway officials for further perusal.
