In Coimbatore, 192 children have been rescued as child laborers and enrolled in government and government-aided schools, after proper training. Children identified under the Child Labor Eradication Program will be enrolled in special schools and given short-term training based on their academic ability, he said.
He added that in Coimbatore district, special schools are functioning under the NCLP scheme at 15 places including Vellalore, Sundarapuram, Kovaipudur, Anaimalai, Negamam and Thondamuthur. Many children who were rescued from factories, brick kilns and farms were rescued and trained in these schools.
After training, the children were admitted to regular schools and monitored continuously, until the end of the school term. So far, 192 children have completed appropriate training, this year.They are now recommended for enrollment in government aided schools close to their homes, said Vijayakumar, District Director, National Child Labor Abolition Program.
"We have recommended the enrollment of 192 children in regular schools, as they have completed two years of training. So far, 100 children have been enrolled in schools and work is underway to add the remaining children. These children are continously monitored to ensure they do not become child labourers again", he added.
