Leopard and Monkey slip into well and dies in Kotagiri
Coimbatore: A leopard and a monkey died, after the former chased the latter and both slipped into a well near Kotagiri of the Nilgiris district.
The locals who spotted the dead animals inside the well alerted the Kotagiri forest department. A team led by officer, Selvakumar, Ranger Sakthivel and Veeramani arrived to the spot and retrieved the corpses from the well, using nets. Later, Veterinarian Dr. Rajan conducted the autopsy and cremated the corpses at the same place.
Preliminary reports from the forest officials revealed that the female leopard around 3-years-old slipped into the well after chasing the monkey which also fell into the well. Both the animals slipped into the well, as the metal sheets covering the well were partially damaged.
The Forest Officials also informed that in a similar accident, a few days ago in Masakal area, a leopard died after falling into a well.
