Covid-19 spread is now under control in Coimbatore District; people should not be careless in following protocols - Collector K Rajamani
Coimbatore: In a recent official announcement, the District Collector has confirmed that Covid-19 spread is under control in the district. The news has has come a huge sigh of relief for the people who have been reling under the fear of the pandemic, since March 2020.
The Collector however has warned people to be cautious in following all health protocols including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing at all times.
Commending the concerted efforts of the field staff of various departments including district administration, revenue, police and health department, Collector K Rajamani informed that the ongoing pandemic situation is very well under control in the district.
Addressing the reporters during his visit to Pollachi North and South Zones to inspect the developmental works, the
District Collector said that the unrelenting efforts taken by the officials to contain Covid-19 spread in Coimbatore is yielding results. Along with the fall in cases, the fatalities have also drastically come down, he added.
"Every day close to 4000 people are subjected to Covid-19 PCR testing, of which only 130 to 140 people are tested positive. Seeing the numbers fall, the public should show no negligence in following the health protocols like wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining social distancing", he stressed.
Steps are taken to accelerate testing numbers, to futher reduce the incidence of the viral spread. The Collector expressed concern that during routine inspections, the officials are often spotting drivers of autorickshaw, lorry and buses without masks. He warned that even small negligence will trigger the spread.
Briefing on the seasonal dengue fever, the Collector said precautionary measures like mass awareness, spraying disinfectants and abate chemical to kill dengue-spreading mosquitos has largely helped to control dengue fever in the district.
