Coimbatore: Civil Supplies Tahsildars inspect over 100 vehicles suspecting ration rice smuggling to Kerala.
It has become a routine that ration rice is regularly transported from Coimbatore to Kerala by lorries and autos. Ration ricesmuggled into Kerala is being sold at high prices.
Therefore, a committee comprising of Coimbatore North Civil Thasildar Sumathi, South Tahsildar Vimala and Assistant Distribution Officer Division 1 Shakuntala Mani was set up on the orders of Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani to prevent the smuggling of ration rice from Coimbatore to Kerala.

More than 10 civil supply officers were involved in a vehicle inspection in Kanuvai today.

The authorities thoroughly inspected all vehicles traveling from Coimbatore to Kerala, including autos, lorries, cars, government and private buses and lorries. They then got full details of the reason they were going to Kerala from the suspects and also their insurance.

Thasildars were involved in the vehicle inspection from morning till eveningand returned after learning that no ration rice had been smuggled.
