Coimbatore: Husband and wife who were addicted to alcohol had frequent disputes following overdose. The inebriated husband stabbed his wife with a bottle of and slept overnight with the corpse. Arumugam is from Sridevi nagar, Papampatti, Sulur in Coimbatore district. His wife, Padmavathi, 50, worked as a laborer for a private company in the area. They have 3 daughters and a son who are all married.
Husband and wife lived alone and were alcoholics. It was common for them to get drunk every day and get into fights. They came home after work yesterday evening and they got their salaries. They both drank together at the house and got into a dispute and attacked each other. Angered by this Arumugam broke the alcohol bottle and stabbed his wife in the neck. Padmavathi was seriously injured and fell down. Thinking that his wife was asleep, Arumugam went to his room and fell asleep. The next morning Arumugam's son came home to see his parents. When he woke them up his father woke up but Padmavathy remained motionless.
When the son took a closer look he was shocked to see her lying dead. He informed Sulur about the incident. Police Inspector Sundarapandian rushed to the spot, seized Padmavathi's body and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. Arumugam has been arrested under Section 302 and is being investigated.
