Coimbatore: Two people, including a doctor, have been arrested in connection with a hospital rent and lease issue in Coimbatore.
According to reports, in 2017, Ellen Hospital operating at 100 ft Road junction, Sathy Road was leased toDr. Uma Shankar from Chennai. Following this, the name of the hospital was changed to Chennai Hospital. Shortly, Dr. Uma Shankar had a dispute with the landlord of the hospital regarding the rent and the case is pending in the Court.
Meanwhile, two days ago, a gang of 20 people allegedly barged into the hospital and damaged the nameplate of Chennai Hospital and replaced it with a banner named Ellen Hospital, on it. They also allegedly have threatened the patients to vacate the room.
Following this, Chairman of Ellen Hospital, Ramachandran lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Crime Branch Police alleging that he had leased the hospital for 10 years to Dr. Uma Shankar, Chairman of Chennai Hospital, who had defrauded rent for several months.
He added that the rent arrears stands at 9 crore 95 lakhs and 70 thousand. And, meanwhile, Dr. Uma Shankar has been plotting to re-lease his hospital worth Rs 100 crore to another person, he alleged and added that a case on rental arrears is is pending at the Court.
He noted in his complaint that the Manager, Maruthavanan of Chennai hospital has issued death threats. He therefore, urged that appropriate action should be taken against Dr. Uma Shankar, Chairman of Chennai Hospital.
After an inquiry, Deputy Commissioner, City Crime Division, Soundarajan filed appropriate sections against Dr. Uma Shankar and Manager, Maruthavanan and arrested them. They were later produced in court and remanded in custody.
