Coimbatore: The Indian Medical Association has announced that it will go on a nationwide strike demanding the withdrawal of the Indian Medical Council order that doctors with Ayurvedic knowledge can perform surgery.
On the 19th, the Medical Council of India issued an order that doctors who studied Ayurveda could perform surgery for 59 health issues. A press conference was held today in this regard in Coimbatore.
According to the attending physicians, the Finance Commission has set up four committees to bring together all medical disciplines, including medical education, and public health systems, medical research, and medical training, all mixed with modern medicine.
Not all doctors can perform surgery as this method is harmful to the general public. This will not affect allopathic doctors or Ayurvedic doctors but the general public would be most affected and said that allopathic doctors are not against Ayurvedic doctors.
Amid strong opposition from allopathic doctors across the country to the announcement, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has called for the withdrawal of the order and announced that all medical movements across Tamil Nadu will join a one-day symbolic strike on the 11th.
It has also said it will protest tomorrow as the first phase of the struggle. They said 38,000 doctors, including private, government and medical students and dentists from across Tamil Nadu, would take part in the protest.
