Coimbatore: Coimbatore Central Jail inmate who was under investigation collapses to death. Ravi (41) is from Agraharam, Annai Sandhya, Erode district.

He was arrested last October on a charge of theft and was lodged in the Bhavani Sub Jail. From there, he was transferred to Coimbatore Central Jail on October 17.

Ravi was walking to and fro in his jail cell at around 2am yesterday and when fellow inmates inquired about it, Ravi said he had heartburn. As Ravi suddenly collapsed he was given first aid, and was rushed to Coimbatore Government Hospital. But doctors who examined him there said he was already dead. Racecourse police have registered a case and are investigating the death of an inmate at the Coimbatore Central Jail.
