The Nilgiris: After a complete lockdown for 8 months in Nilgiris, the District Collector Innocent Divya has now opened all the tourists spots in Ooty for visitors. Ooty also known as the "Queen of Hill Stations" is very popular for its scenic nature flora and fauna. With an average of 33 Lakh visitors who come to explore Ooty every year, the tourists have been stopped from visiting the locations this year over precautionary methods by the government.
Due to the lockdown almost 22 thousands families have lost their livelihood for over 9 months now, keeping this in mind the government has decided to reopen tourist places like Ooty Boat House, Kodanad Estate View Point, Dodabetta Peak, Pykara Lake and other popular tourist attractions from today.
District Collector Innocent Divya requested both the tourists, shop owners and residents to maintain social distancing and continue to wear masks.
Shopkeepers are now finally happy as they can now open business after a long hault of 9 months.
Although most tourists destinations are open now, the Mudhumalai Tiger Reserve remains closed. All other popular tourist attractions belonging to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department like Elephant Safaria still remain closed for tourists.
