Coimbatore: Nagarathinam (44) who hails from Trichy was all set to board a flight to Sharjah the day before yesterday. Nagarathinam who was suspicious about the empty suitcase given to him by his friends contacted the police at the Airport.
Police who checked the suitcase later found 1.2kg drugs worth rupees 7 crore inside the suitcase produced by Nagarathinam.
A case was filed by the Narcotics Prevention Police Department and Nagarathinam was taken into custody. During further investigation Nagarathinam confessed to be working as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned to his native upon his wife and children having met with an accident a few months back. Nagarathinam who was in financial troubles sought out for the help of friends for his return to Saudi Arabia.
Nagarathinam on investigation said that Arul and Alibhai from his area approached Nagarathinam and gave him a suitcase saying it was empty and that they will collect it from him when they come to Saudi.
Nagarathinam, who suspected foul play, surrendered the suitcase to the police. Later the police verified the incident with the police camera which proved the two Arul and Ali giving Nagarathinam the suitcase. Police then file a case against the two who have now absconded.
