Building waste to be dumped in two unused quarries in Coimbatore - Corporation Commissioner

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian has informed that steps have been taken to dump the building waste collected in the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation of Coimbatore into two unused quarries.

There are more than 5,000 streets in 100 wards in Coimbatore. In many parts of the corporation, construction work is ongoing, such as renovating old buildings and constructing new ones. Thebuilding waste is generated when old buildings are demolished and new buildings are built there, and old buildings are renovated. All this waste is usually dumped in the water bodies of Coimbatore.

The Coimbatore Corporation’s construction debris incinerator project has been pending for more than 2 years now. The project which would have been ideal for such waste clearance has been kept on hold due to unknown reasons.

Meanwhile to combat the immediate issue, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian said, “We are planning to dump the building waste collected in the city in two unused quarries at Madukkarai and Sulur in Coimbatore. Only building waste will be dumped in these pits.”
