3 arrested for snatching deer meat from street dog in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: 3 arrested for snatching deer meat from street dog in Coimbatore. Colonipudur is in Periyanaickenpalayam Wildlife Sanctuary under Gopinari Division outside Gopinari East Beat.
At around 11.00pm yesterday three people from the area saw a spotted deer cub being chased and bitten by stray dogs in a patta land. When they saw it, they chased the dogs away, cut up the deer and took it away.
Upon information a team comprising PN Palayam Wildlife Sanctuary, Gopinari Division Forester, Madhusoodanan, Gopinari East Round Forest Ranger, Annamalai, Forest Ranger, Radhakrishnan and anti-poaching guards went there and investigated. All three involved in the crime were caught and the deer meat they possessed was confiscated. Following that, a PN palayam team led by the Forest Officer, Selvaraj, inspected the area and conducted an investigation.
Following the investigation, a wildlife crime case was registered against all three. Gopal (age 32) of Mettupalayam Tholampalayam and Kurunda Jalam (36) of the same area and Murugan (36) from Mannarkadu, Kerala was arrested. The offenders were later fined Rs 10,000 each and fined a total of Rs 30,000.
