Pollachi: Pollachi near Coimbatore district has been recently in news for various sexual assault crimes against women. In a recent incident an 80 year old woman was gagged with cloth in her mouth and was raped by a 34 year old created panic in the neighborhood.
The horrific incident happened yesterday evening when the 80-year-old elderly woman was collecting coconut tree barks for making broomsticks. The accused Vellingiri (34) is said to have lurked in the farm who then suddenly approached the victim, tied her up and sexually assaulted her even after she begging him to stop.
Post assaulting the senior woman, Vellingiri escaped before the neighbours arrived. A complaint has been filed at the Komangalam police station by the victim and the neighbours to find the accused and punish him severely.
The neighbours grieved that elderly woman has sons and daughters and her elder son is already 60-year-old. The Police are on the lookout for the culprit who has reportedly absconded.
