Coimbatore: Jewellery shop worker who Lost job due to 'Covid-19' starts manufacturing LED bulbs on his own with the help of social media and succeeds. He is awaiting government help in getting loans

The 'Covid-19' outbreak has made a big impact in almost all sectors. Many have lost their jobs and many are still struggling to come out from the crisis. Whereas the story of Mahesh from Coimbatore is a different one which is an inspiration to many youngsters.

In an interview with SimpliCity he said, "My name is Mahesh, wife name is Ramya and we are blessed with one child who is 4 years old. I was working at Mysore in a Jewellery shop which has many branches at various places. Post 'Covid-19' outbreak followed by the lockdown implementation hit hard on my living. Jewellery shops were closed and travelling to other states also got very difficult. My wife and child were alone at Coimbatore and hence I decided to give up my job to take care of my family."

He said, "As days went by I started to feel the financial burden. Initially I decided to start a T-Shirt business, but with the help of a suggestion given by my mother-in-law, brother, and uncle I decided to start manufacturing 'LED' bulbs. At the time when I made this decision, there was complete lockdown implemented without any relaxation. Hence I was not able to go out to get any training assistance. At that time, social media helped me to get tips to manufacture LED bulbs."

He added that, "With the help of IndiaMart, I purchased the raw materials. Investment cost was high but I managed with some money given by my father and my wife's jewellery. Since I was new to this sector, initially all the products which I manufactured didn't get the right finishing. But I did not give up and continued my efforts in manufacturing and now I have succeeded in making 250 LED bulbs. At present i am manufacturing only 9 Watts LED bulbs."

He said, "Since I have made 250 bulbs, now I have also started doing marketing on my own. I go to each and every trader and request them to give me an opportunity to sell my product. At present 9 Watts LED bulb price in the market ranges between Rs 100 -Rs 130 or more. The total production cost for making one LED bulb for me is Rs 60. I am ready to sell them at Rs 80."

He requested saying, "I am unaware of the government schemes and if any financial assistance is provided. If it is possible I would concentrate in making LED bulbs of various Watts. I have confidence and i am sure i will overcome the crisis and become a successful micro industrialist."
