Cop injured after being attacked by drunk men during patrol near Thudiyalur

Coimbatore: A cop working at Thudiyalur police station was severely injured after he was attacked by three drunk youth.

Maharajan (29) a policeman who hails from Tirunelveli district, works at the Thudiyalur Police station in Coimbatore.

As a part of the routine night duty, cop Maharajan along with Sivan Karthick were patrolling near Thudiyalur area, on Tuesday night.

After a while, Maharajan dropped Sivan Karthick at a specific location for patrol he then returned to the Primary Public Health Care Centre were he was stationed, for duty.

At the time, Maharajan, witnessed three drunk men quarreling and went over to resolve also asking them to leave the premises, immediately. But the drunkmen got into a heated argument with the cop and attacked with him with a stone causing him heavy injuries.

Sivan Karthick who was on rounds later found Maharajan heavily injured, and rushed him to a nearby private hospital.

Based on the complaint filed at the Thudiyalur police station by Maharajan, cops arrived at the scene and caught the three youth who were in an inebriated state.

The accused were identified as Balasubramaniam (35) from Vellakinar, Manirathnam (25) and Ashwin (20) from Thudiyalur. All three have been booked under section 307 attempt to murder and remanded in Coimbatore central prison.
