Ammasai Murder Case: Judge orders special inquiry on approver who turned hostile
Coimbatore: A special inquiry has been ordered by Justice T.H.Mohammed Farooq of the Fifth Additional District Court in Coimbatore on an approver who turned hostile.
In a much-awaited judgement on November 30 in the murder of a woman named Amavasai (45) in 2011, the Court sentenced double life sentence to advocate E.T. Rajavel (52) and his wife R. Mohana (45) for the murder they had plotted and executed to fake Mohana’s death.
The Justice also awarded life sentence to P. Palanisamy (48) from Podanur who was the couple's driver and helped them in the murder.
In December 10, 2011, Ammasai from Sivananda colony had approached advocate Rajavel for legal consultation and re-visited him again the next day at his Gopalapuram office near Diatrict Collectorate. After the day, the woman was reportedly missing.
In the initial stage, Ponraj (52) of Pillaiyarpuram was an approver in the case and was not part of the trial. However, he later turned hostile and the prosecution has now filed an application seeking a separate trial on Ponraj for his role in the murder.
He had earlier testified that he had witnessed the murder of Ammavasai and thus was added as a prosecution witness. But later in the Court, he testified against the prosecution during the trial and said he knew nothing about the murder.
Following which Prosecution Special Advocate Sankaranarayanan filed a separate application of trial on Ponrajunder the Criminal Procedure Code 308 and sought a separate hearing in the same court.
Reviewing the petition filedby the public prosecutor against the approver turning hostile, Justice Mohammed Farooq ordered to hold a trial separately under the sections including 302 murder, 109 inciting murder and 201 forensic sections. He said evidence and documents already filed in the case would be taken up for hearing.
