Coimbatore: Coimbatoreans will have to brace for a delayed yet prolonged winter this year, which is expected to last till the end of February.
Due to delay in northeast monsoons and prolonged rainfall upto 1st of December, the district will have an extended winter until end of February, according to the Agro-Climate forecast department of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Under usual circumstances, the winter would begin by the 1st week of December and end by 1st week of February. However, this year as the Northeast rains have still not subsided and more low pressure formations are brewing, predictions for moderate to heavy rains are expected in the region. Hence, the winter will be further pushed to end of 2nd week or beginning of third week of December, after the rain stops.
According to the forecast, colder nights and foggy mornings can be expected in the upcoming days in the district. Due to patchy rains and constant clouding, the temperatures has reduced by 2-3 degrees in the district and the suburban parts of Coimbatore are already witnessing the season's foggy mornings and colder nights.
Though not much of rain showers are expected in the district but the drop in night temperatures is expected to start by another two weeks, the forecast says.
