Coimbatore: Today marks the first year remembrance for the 17 victims who lost lives as the compound wall of a bungalow crashed in AT Colony in Mettupalayam.
Coimbatore: Today marks the first year remembrance for the 17 victims who lost lives as the compound wall of a bungalow crashed in AT Colony in Mettupalayam. There are four houses including Arukkani and Chinnammal which were adjacent to each other in the AT Colony area in Mettupalayam. There was a bungalow near these houses which had a compound wall that was above 10 feet.

The compound wall collapsed due to heavy rain and fell on these four houses. Seventeen people, including women and children, who were sleeping at home at the time, were crushed to death. Only relatives of the deceased paid floral tributes at the place where 17 people died marking the occasion of first anniversary.
Except relatives, political parties and the public have been denied permission by the district administration to enter the area. More than 1,000 policemen, led by West Zone Police Chief Periyayya, have been deployed in the area, including Deputy Chief of Police Narendra Nair, District Superintendent A Arularasu and Additional Superintendent of Police Anita.
