Coimbatore: Professor arrested for asking 100 masks in bulk in Ettimadai. Karthikeyan (age 48) is from the KaKa Chavadi area of Coimbatore.
He has been working as an assistant professor in a private college. Since lockdown was imposed he is said to have been working from home for the past 6 months. Karthikeyan, who came to the Ettimadai town panchayat office at the KG Chavady yesterday, asked Kandasamy, the Executive Officer who was on duty there, that he needed 100 masks.
The officer said that 100 masks cannot be given to one person and said that masks are being provided in fair price shops. But Karthikeyan insisted that all the office had to give masks. He got into an argument with the officer and demanded 100 masks immediately. He immediately informed the KG Chavady police.
Karthikeyan got into a dispute with the police when he was questioned. The police then arrested Assistant Professor Karthikeyan on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Executive Officer of the Ettimadai Town Panchayat office.
